Dreamwidth Hints and Tips

I am very happy to see that the community has already 30 members after only one week!
Since we've had so many people create new Dreamwidth accounts, here are a few tips that might come in handy for new users:
1) ICONS
You can have 15 icons in free accounts. Librarians icons can be found here, for example:
http://fandom-icons.dreamwidth.org/tag/tv:+the+librarians
http://community.livejournal.com/_fandom_icons_/tag/tv%3A%20the%20librarians
http://queen-bartonia.livejournal.com/26623.html
You can add them to your account here:
http://www.dreamwidth.org/editicons
It is considered polite to leave a comment when taking icons.
When you upload icons to your account, you should credit the icon maker in the "comment" field, e.g. like this: "made by <user name=whomadeit>".
2) TRACK POSTS
Your own posts and comments will automatically notify you when someone comments on them, but you can also get notifications when people post to the community or you can track replies to other people's posts and comments.
Either go through the community profile and choose Track.
Or use the Track symbol (
), it looks like a bell in the current layout, on single posts or comments. Whenever someone replies to that post/comment, you will be notified.
You can configure notifications to get sent by email or to go to your dw inbox.
3) TAGS
Currently, the community is still small and there are few entries, but the more traffic we get, the more important the tags will be.
You can see the already existing tags here (there's also a link at the top of the community):
https://thelibrarians-tv.dreamwidth.org/tag/
The community is configured in a way that every member can create new tags and add tags to posts.
4) LAYOUT
I've tried to choose a layout that works for everyone, also on mobile devices. But if you don't like the community layout, you can view the community in your own journal layout instead:
Change your display settings under "Journal Pages: Shown to You".
You can choose a journal style you like here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/customize/
If you have any questions or suggestions for improvements, please comment and tell me.
