Well, that was...okay. Eve got some great scenes.

Flynn: "The Library has all the lost classics of past civilizations, and you read the National Inquisitor?" Okay, first of all, the Inquisitor gave him useful information for this case, and second of all, why haven't you partnered with Project Gutenberg yet?

I was intrigued early on, when Cindy appeared to be as trapped and traumatized as the cult, just that she was the only one aware of it. Then it turned out she was behind the cult after all, and making herself cry for plot reasons.

She brought people into the house to love and adore her, then spent most of her time alone? You'd think she would hang out with them more.

As soon as Stone started getting on Ezekiel's case about needing to resist, I knew he was gonna get mind-whammied hardest.

I like that Ezekiel's immunity wasn't because of his own self-obsession after all, although I wish it had turned out to be an "I am confident that my friends love me" thing, instead of "I was protected by being in love with a woman I saw on a reality show years ago whose face I couldn't really remember."

Eve, right before punching someone: "Fine. We'll skip the mac'n'cheese." Yesss.

And manipulating the mind-whammied librarians -- "Fine. She likes Ezekiel better anyway." Good going.

Ezekiel: "Kind of like a wild pack of Beliebers." Jenkins: "I have no idea what that means, but probably worse." Heh.

The practical considerations in this episode were nicely done. Need someone's tears for a potion? Come prepared with onions from the kitchen.

Although, geez, the ending was so convenient for the villain. She kidnapped people! Some of them for weeks! They would've had scared families, missed bills, lost jobs! That should still be a jailable offense, no matter how sad your reality-show backstory.

And, you know, this is a situation where it would help to have magic librarians doing actual librarianing. Holding information sessions on So You've Been Mind-Whammied By A Witch: How To Re-Adjust To Your Life. Handing out pamphlets. Helping people research what just happened to them via the magical reference desk. Researching legitimate witch-related precedents that the legal system can build relevant laws on.

All of this!

I think it's good Ezekiel reads the Inquisitor! Since their cases deal with strange occurrences, it's a good place to go to look for clues.

The way Cindy complained about her followers made me think she was unaware of the artifact causing their adoration. It was weird to see that she did it on purpose.

And Stone. Hilarious. Cindy: "oh great, another poet." Ha. Lots of great dialogue/jokes in this ep.

I liked that it wasn't a repeat of Ezekiel's arragance, but yeah, ultimately a bit of a stretch. I liked his advice to her though.

I didn't fully understand the witch and her betrayal. Power, sure, but I would think she would understand if would eventually backfire.

And yeah. Cindy should definitely go to jail or something. Why open the show going on and on about a desperate mother searching for her daughter of your not going to follow through? I know, mom was still there at the end, but there were lots of people there.

Yes! I love the idea of the Librarians helping to rehabilitate people after artifact exposure! There could be a group type thing, Magic Artifact Survivors or something.

then spent most of her time alone? You'd think she would hang out with them more I agree but it wasn't enough; she spent her time alone and crying to get tears to make more potion. Ezekiel had to point out that it wasn't real and so it would never be enough. Maybe it rang false even there, that spending time with people didn't fill the void because their affection was false, but instead of realising this, she was hell bent on making more people love her? Or it might just have been sloppy writing :)
I think your idea has more merit, if she was trapped too!

And, you know, this is a situation where it would help to have magic librarians doing actual librarianing. I love this idea. But I guess running around and getting into mischief and barely saving the day is more exciting than actual helping fix things after the disaster. Yet I can see a hilarious exchange with the sort of pamphlets each LiT would think it appropriate to write/ways to help people. Now you've said it, I'd like Jenkins to be grumpy they've dragged him away from such an important task sometimes; *someone* has to help people readjust to their lives and ensure they haven't lost their jobs/homes!

I liked that the resolution of the love potion issue was self-confidence. (Also, lol at Stone getting on Ezekiel's case about being in love with Cindy -- suuuuuuuuuuure, Stone, sure.)

I amy be shipping Stone/Flynn a little now?

My husband made the comment, "at least they're still tired up." And my brain went all, "but what if they weren't...?"

I don't really understand DOSA at all. I know they're supposed to be bad guys, but they're terrible and have no idea what they're doing.

Well, you see, they're a shady undercover government organization that's dedicated to investigating and gathering magical artifacts while suppressing information from the general public, and that's a bad thing unless we're doing it.

In my comment I'm concerned that they keep getting played but unlike the Librarians they don't have a Jenkins to come to the rescue! :) Sucks to be DOSA they really do seem like amateurs despite the fact they've collected a lot of artefacts!

*posting before reading comments. I'm a little meh on this so maybe everyone else loved it! :P*

I liked that Flynn explained his Jedi "We're Librarians" trick to Stone :)

The perfume was blatantly obvious.
I was wrong about the guests though; I thought Cindy was choosing them to use them/their essence in making the perfume.

I was quite ready to believe that Ezekiel was just too full of himself to be affected but I can buy Stone's reasoning. It's also interesting that it was Stone and not Eve or Cassandra who pointed it out to him; nice avoiding the gender role trap by having Stone be more sensitive/intuitive sometimes.
I'm on the fence about the Stone/Flynn attraction moment, but I don't see Flynn in particular as being uptight about sexuality so it's not as problematic as it might have been. that said can we please get an openly gay guest character and/or even an off-screen female love interest for Cassandra?!

(My sky box gave the right info about the Cindy cult and Flynn getting brainwashed, but added a line I guess is from the next episode, that Cassandra thinks she has days to live! If we sort out Cassandra's impending death sentence we can tick her off the Doomed Character pool)

Jenkins' ghostbuster entrance was great :)

DOSA really need to step up their game, they keep getting played and they haven't got a Jenkins to help them out!

It was a good episode for Ezekiel and there was only one scene that made me side-eye the acting a little, but overall it was pretty meh.

I did learn the word "troposphere" though so that was a bonus :)

ETA: I was eye rolling so hard and yelling at Eve not to let both her and Cassandra go into the giant fridge opened by the witch they've just met. JFC, have you never read a fairy tale? Or have ANY common sense? Eve is smarter than that and it irked me, Bad writer, bad.

Yes! I can see fanfic where Flynn and Jake, who do have so much in common, have a serious talk about how some of those feelings were actually real and merely given free rein by magic :) The show not so much. TV is still terrible at letting characters deal with their traumas and any feelings that aren't outright het romance, and there are still few gay and bi characters, especially those who aren't defined by it. I can think of a few and things are getting better for representation, but some people still think gay characters=pushing "the gay agenda" and many family orientated shows aren't willing to step up :/

At this point I'd be happy for a throwaway line from Cassandra about a bullet-proff love interest along the lines of "My date night got cancelled so I'm free; it's okay, I can't be mad when Claire's been called to meet with the President" (prime minister/brief the UN/perform a life saving surgery/etc because I can see Cass having an amazing girlfriend :D)
