OK, so I didn't really want to put more thought into this, but I can't get it out of my head. :/

Here's my personal opinion:

I don't like that Dean Devlin purposely took the show in a darker direction. I am sad John Rogers is no longer running the show. They explicitly stated in season 1 that they want the show to be fun, and they don't want people to worry about characters dying. And now that's exactly what they're doing and I feel betrayed.

I hope he's just kidding and the character who dies will not be really dead. They have the option on this show, and I hope they're going to use it.

I'm usually all for dark in the things I watch, but the Librarians are the exception. Now I'm "forced" to think about one of my beloved characters dying and that's just no fun. I would much rather have discussed silly things and squeed about ships. This is not what I wanted to deal with this season.

I doubt it'll get more people to watch, but why else would he be doing it? (Maybe Dean wants to be Stephen Moffat. Argh.)

I agree with the comments. I voted Jenkins because in some ways he or Flynn are the easiest to lose without disturbing the overall team dynamic. Also "dead but got better" is a common trope in fantasy/sci-fi shows. And yes "lose" could see Cassandra ascending to Lady of the Lake status or someone being trapped elsewhere for the rest of the season but maybe not forever.

I haven't seen the first s3 episode yet so can't comment on the tone. I agree with you though, this is or was a light-hearted show, akin to Leverage in tone. It doesn't need to be dark to maintain interest.

Yes, they are. They make the most sense. I still think it's Flynn. Especially because of what he said in the premiere (let me know what you think once you've seen it), and judging from the deluge of Evlynn promos we're currently getting. For some reason, the promos (on all shows, not just the Librarians) are always pushing the pairing that's going to die. I just want to enjoy their love for a change, is that too much to ask?

I think the tone of the premiere was plenty lighthearted, actually. It was exactly what we were used to and what we expected. The tumblr fandom exploded with love over the premiere.
